AFTERCARE

YOUR TATTOOS DONE, WHAT NOW?

When the tattoo is completed I will cover the tattoo in either cling film or an adhesive second skin film. These a very different types of covers and it is dependent on the tattoo and your skin.

CLING FILM - Cling film is used to cover the new tattoo for a short period of time. Please leave the the cling film on for 1/2 hours or until you have arrived home. Wash gently with a fragrance-free soap and rinse under warm water, pat dry lightly with a clean paper towel and let fully dry before applying a small amount of aftercare cream.

SECOND SKIN FILM - Second skin is generally my preferred option for the cover. When we have completed the tattoo and given an appropriate amount of time for the area to weep, and reduce inflammation I will lightly clean, pat dry and apply the second skin. This material is a clear adhesive film that that sticks to and covers the entire area of the tattoo site and can be left on for a recommended 3 days or minimum 24 hours.

When removing the second skin please peel back a bottom corner of the sticker, and lightly lift the corner and pull down. It's also very helpful to do this process under running warm water or in the shower, the adhesive with lift better when water gets in contact with it. Wash the tattoo gently with a fragrance-free soap and rinse under warm water, pat dry lightly with a clean paper towel and let fully dry before applying a small amount of aftercare cream.

HOW LONG DOES A TATTOO TAKE TO FULLY HEAL?

Your new tattoo will take a minimum of 14 days to fully heal, please be sure to lightly clean lightly and pat dry with clean paper towel before applying aftercare cream. Its good to do this process twice a day - I recommend morning and evening.

During these 14 days the skin may become dry and flaky. This is totally normal, if it becomes irritable or itchy avoid scratching or peeling a apply a small amount of aftercare cream to help reduce irritation.

HOW DO I KEEP MY TATTOO SAFE?

To prevent any damage or infection it is best to avoid the following during the 14 days of healing.

Sun and Sand, Swimming, Baths (showers are fine) Saunas and Spas (Breeding grounds for bacteria) Sweating and Intensive Exercise.

It's a great practice to apply sunscreen to your tattoos even after the healing process is complete. Excessive sun/tanning can damage the pigment in your tattoos!

WHAT AFTERCARE CREAM SHOULD I BUY?

There are many great options for aftercare cream, I recommend the following.

Bepanthen Tattoo Cream

Dr. Pickle Tattoo Balm

Hustle Butter Tattoo Balm

Ink Nurse Aftercare
